1. A new advanced reading copy of “The Widows of Braxton County” by Jess McConkey. Does the author’s name not sound familiar? Don’t fret! One of my favorite authors, Shirley Damsgaard, who is popular for her Ophelia and Abby mysteries, is now writing under a pen name. Ms. Damsgaard / McConkey has been more than generous to provide an ARC of her book (being released next month). I’m already head-first into the book and I’ll tell you now… worthy of serious swooning.
2. A good author donates an ARC to a giveaway. An amazing reader-loving author gifts a messenger bag to go with! Ms. Damsgaard / McConkey donated a beautiful Widows of Braxton County messenger bag (pictured above). By entering the giveaway, you’re getting a chance to be the envy of other bibliophiles. Thank you for the giveaway! I have read two of Sebold’s books, but not this one. The best book I finished reading this year is “The book Of Human Skin”, by MIchelle Lovric, set in Venice, centuries ago 🙂

I have been reading a lot of cozy mysteries lately and I really liked “A Cookbook Conspiracy”, also “Murder Past Due”. I like how the authors make the characters so comfortable and friendly. I don’t feel alone so much…
I really enjoyed your post “The Most Magical Place On Earth”. Once I found how one could go to such magical places when reading a book, I was a goner! My dream as a kid was to get locked in the library over night and just spend my time with the books! I always only had limited time there as we lived 12 miles from town and could only spend as much time as it took my mom to buy groceries. Ah, books!

I have read a lot of books that would not really qualify as “literary” lately as I have been writing up reviews as of late and I write them for all different types of books but on the side I am reading, “The Virgin’s Lover” by Philippa Gregory and it has, so far, been a very good book. I am only about 50 pages in so I could be giving you all a premature “very good book” there but I am enjoying it when I get the chance to read it 🙂

The best book I’ve read this year is The summer before the storm, by Gabriele Wills, a story about some Canadian friends that get involved in the first World War. Amazing characters and gripping plot!!

My favorite post of yours from today was “This is a Man’s World.”
It resonated strongly with me because I used to work in management at a corporate office. I’m a programmer, and before I was in management, I never really noticed the sexism. I was paid better than others in my position because I worked a million times harder (yes, I realize now that’s not proof of equality!). When it really sunk in was when I took a management position and subsequently had a child.
As much as you’ve been harassed about when you’re having a child (ugh), I assure you that the corporate world does not actually *want* women to raise families. What they want is for women to take as little maternity leave as possible, pop a bottle of formula in that kid’s mouth, and send it off to daycare at 4 weeks old. I found this out the hard way. 😛

My favorite post is Sundays Are For Lifetime Movies. I can so relate. I love them too and some of your favorites are mine too. Hubby jokingly says that he’s glad I watch them b/c some of the men portrayed are such losers that it makes him look good :D.
